Summer

Sitka ChannelSitka in the summer is absolutely beautiful - on those five to ten days a year we actually get see the sun. Living in a Our Foresttemperate rain forest has its advantages, and disadvantages. And when it rains, it pours. Sitka gets an average of 100 inches of rain a year, so don't let all the land pictures fool you. But oh, what the rain does for our forests. It is still amazingly beautiful when it is raining, every thing is so green and lush.

Tanks and ViewDiving is the summer is beautiful, and a bit warmer on the top ten to fifteen feet. But once you hit about 20 feet, the water temperate stays the same year round, a chilly 38 Bull Kelpdegrees. visibility in the summer ranges from 25-40 ft. Still pretty good compared to other popular dive destinations, but for locals we consider it pretty poor. Marine life is very abundant as the long summer days stimulate rapid kelp growth. Bull kelp can grow up to three feet a day. The long summer days also make going for early morning dives and evening dives a special treat.

Thimbleberry in the SummerHiking in the summer is also very beautiful. With the forest very lush and an abundance of wildlife to see, every trip is an adventure, rain or shine. Hiking in the rain is actually my favorite time to go. The smell of the forest and the Mountian Bikinggreenness of the flora and fauna are memories your not likely to forget. Biking in the summer is very nice. Whether your riding along the coast or on a mountain road the views are breathtaking, and the ride is always nice a cool in the rain.
