On September 18, 2004, Island Fever Diving and Adventures held it forest under water and beach clean up in conjunction with Project AWARE and the Ocean Conservancy's International Cleanup Day. The clean up took place at Mt. Edgecumbe High School where kids and non-divers cleaned up the beach and divers worked on the ocean floor.
Project AWARE (Aquatic World Awareness, Responsibility and Education) conserves aquatic environments through education, advocacy and action. In 2003, more than 200 underwater cleanups were sponsored across the United States as part of this program and the project continues to growth each year. Although these events take place at various location and times, every September hundreds of dive centers, resorts and environmental organizations throughout the world conduct beach and underwater cleanup activities in recognition of International Cleanup Day. Island Fever Diving and Adventures is please to take part in this program and assist in keeping Sitka beautiful - above and below the ocean.
